Steering Committee annual meeting: March 2018 (CSW)

FAR Steering Committee met in New York, USA, during CSW62. The Steering Committee welcomed new members representing four global regions: Abiola Akiyode Afolabi (Africa); Priyanthi Fernando (Asia); Rosalee Gonzalez (North America – indigenous women); and, Margarita Guille (Latin America).

The Steering Committee’s new composition prompted a review of FAR’s purpose and relevance in the larger context of the challenges faced by the global feminist movement and women’s rights defenders. The Steering Committee revisited FAR’s mission, vision, and strategies to ensure women’s voices from the Global South are amplified and able to influence policies that address violence, inequality, and structural discrimination at different levels. The Steering Committee unanimously decided to focus on the issue of women, peace and security in times of peace and in conflict for the period 2018-2021, which is expected to contribute to a global paradigm shift towards a feminist, sustainable, inclusive agenda for women, peace and security.
